Nurturing Care & Early Development

Nurturing care and early development include transitional care, breastfeeding support, and proper nutrition for infants. We create a supportive environment that promotes healthy growth, comfort, and early developmental milestones.

Transitional Care

For infants, The Lighthouse School provides sippy cups that allow children to transition from bottles into sippy cups. They are labeled individually and washed, disinfected, and sanitized daily. We provide one sippy cup for milk, one sippy cup for water, and one can be provided for juice as needed.

Breastfeeding

The Lighthouse School supports breastfeeding by providing a private, comfortable space for nursing mothers and ensuring all infants can receive breast milk while in our care. Breast milk should be brought daily in a labeled bottle, stored in the infant room refrigerator, warmed using a designated bottle warmer, and any unused portions will be sent home at pickup.

Food for Infants

The Lighthouse School provides Similac Advance formula, though parents may supply a different formula if preferred, and all bottles must be labeled with the child’s name and date. Infant rooms are equipped with bottle warmers and refrigerators, and parents should keep staff informed of their child’s dietary needs using the monthly Infant Care Sheet. For safety and licensing compliance, open baby food jars are not permitted. Unused food will be sent home or discarded daily, and all breast milk must be clearly labeled and handled according to proper health guidelines.

Common Questions

How do you support transitions as children grow from infants to toddlers?

We provide gentle, age-appropriate transitions that help children move confidently from one stage to the next. Teachers work closely with each child to build new routines, encourage independence, and maintain a sense of comfort and familiarity. This thoughtful approach ensures children feel secure while continuing to grow and develop at their own pace.

What does a typical day look like for infants and toddlers?

Each day includes a balance of nurturing care, structured routines, and hands-on learning experiences. Infants receive individualized attention through feeding, floor time, and sensory activities, while toddlers participate in art, music, circle time, and play. Daily schedules are designed to create consistency while supporting growth and exploration.

How do teachers support early learning and development?

Teachers engage children through talking, singing, play, and interactive activities that stimulate their senses and curiosity. Infants are encouraged to explore through touch, sound, and movement, while toddlers learn through hands-on experiences and guided play. This approach helps build cognitive, social, and physical skills from an early age.

How does the program keep children safe and comfortable?

We provide a clean, secure environment where children can feel safe and supported throughout the day. Our teachers build strong, trusting relationships with each child to promote emotional comfort and confidence. Families are also kept informed with daily updates on routines, care, and developmental milestones.

How do you communicate with parents about their child’s day?

We believe strong communication with families is essential for each child’s success. Parents receive daily reports that include details about meals, diaper changes, activities, and milestones. This ongoing connection helps ensure continuity between home and school while supporting each child’s development.

Sailing to Success

With guidance from our caring staff, every child is equipped with the skills they need to navigate social interactions and build confidence. Each day, we help them chart a course toward becoming capable, well-rounded individuals, ready to sail smoothly into success in both public and private school settings.
