Our Preschool Developmental Milestone Assessments
At The Lighthouse School, we use trusted developmental assessment tools to monitor each child’s growth and ensure they are meeting important milestones. Our teachers utilize the Frog Street developmental checklist for infants and toddlers and the CIRCLE Progress Monitoring System for preschool-aged children to track progress and identify areas of support. Assessments are conducted monthly (excluding school-aged children) to guide lesson planning, support individualized learning, and keep parents informed through regular conferences. If any developmental concerns arise for children up to 36 months, we partner with families by recommending Early Childhood Intervention Services. This service provides additional resources and guidance to support each child’s development.

Common Questions
What ages are included in the preschool program?
Our preschool program is designed for children ages 2 through 4, with age-specific classrooms that support each stage of development. Each level builds on the last, helping children grow academically, socially, and emotionally. This structured progression prepares children for a smooth transition into kindergarten.
What skills do children learn in the preschool program?
Children develop foundational skills in language, early literacy, math, science, and social interaction through hands-on activities. They also learn important life skills such as sharing, following directions, and building independence. These experiences help create a strong foundation for future academic success.
How does the preschool program prepare children for kindergarten?
Our Pre-K program focuses on school readiness by introducing structured learning, early reading concepts, and problem-solving skills. Teachers guide children through meaningful activities that build confidence and encourage critical thinking. This balanced approach helps children feel prepared and excited for the transition to elementary school.
What does a typical preschool day look like?
Each day includes a mix of teacher-guided instruction and child-led exploration to support well-rounded development. Children participate in learning centers, group activities, and creative experiences like art and music. This balance allows children to learn new concepts while also developing independence and curiosity.
How do teachers support learning in the classroom?
Teachers create engaging environments where children learn through play, exploration, and guided instruction. They introduce concepts in a way that connects to real-world experiences and encourages active participation. This approach helps children stay engaged while developing confidence and a love for learning.
