Meals & Nutrition

Healthy, Balanced Meals at The Lighthouse School

The Lighthouse School prioritizes healthy eating and nutrition for all children. Every day, we provide fresh, balanced meals designed to give children the energy and nutrients they need to grow, learn, and thrive. Our daily schedule includes breakfast, lunch, and an afternoon snack, with meals that are both nutritious and enjoyable, helping children develop lifelong healthy eating habits.

Our menus feature fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and protein, and children are encouraged to try new foods, fostering curiosity and good eating habits. Meal plans follow a four-week rotating schedule and are posted on our website and parent notifications board so families can see what’s being served. All meals adhere to USDA Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) standards, administered by the Texas Department of Agriculture.

Food Allergies & Dietary Needs

We understand that some children have food allergies or dietary restrictions. Parents should inform us of any allergies during enrollment. Our staff works carefully to accommodate these needs and provide safe, nutritious meals throughout the day.

Important Notes:

  • The school is PEANUT-FREE. No peanuts, peanut butter, or peanut-related foods are allowed.
  • Children under age 4 should not be served foods that present a choking hazard, such as hard candy, marshmallows, whole grapes, nuts, seeds, popcorn, hot dogs sliced into rounds, or chips.
  • Outside food is not allowed unless accompanied by a doctor’s note. All outside food must be healthy and ready to eat, as we cannot reheat meals.

We provide a variety of resources to help you support your child’s growth and development. These include:

  • Books and articles on child development
